Jan Blohm’s latest album Jenny follows his Ghoema-acclaimed Die Liefde Album that was released in 2018. Even though there are only 2 years between these, Jenny has been in the making for 15 years.
It is a concept album and tells the story of the lead character, Jenny, as she grows up in the small and conservative railway town of De Aar during the 1980s. We are also introduced to other characters such as Nonnie and Lallie. We learn of Lallie in Jan’s rendition of the Koos Kombuis classic Lalie (spelt slightly different on Jenny).
Jenny follows in the footsteps of Jan’s previous album Die Liefde Album in moving away from his raw Blues Rock/Hard Rock sound that his older albums (such as Melkstraat Confessions and Groen Trui) are known for. His latest offerings have a more adult contemporary sound which might expose his music to new audiences. As with previous offerings you can still expect his clever way with words in telling stories.
