Here’s To The Now is the latest album released by South African guitarist, singer and songwriter Nathan Smith. This will be his third solo album and consists of 12 original songs.
The album opens with the driving title track which is about living for today and not worrying about the future, while learning from your past. This song seems to set the trend for the rest of the album as each song is based on his personal experiences and beliefs. This is evident from the two singles, Decisions and Closer. Decisions is about relationships that don’t work out the way we expect them to, and how you recover from these, while saving your love for someone else who it could be more fitting to. Closer is his first overtly gospel song in which he expresses his gratitude to God.
With him being a session guitarist, the album includes several guitar-driven rock songs and softer acoustic guitar-led songs. You can expect several guitar ‘licks’ and solos that showcase his skill. He also assisted with the piano sections and production of the album. Apart from Nathan, the album features other well-known session musicians and professionals who contribute to the overall sound.
The song selection was done in such a way that, if you listen to the album from start to finish, you won’t get tired of listening as there is a balance between the upbeat and softer songs.
Overall, the production on the album is good and the songs are easy-to-listen-to songs that will have you listen to the album on repeat.
