Van Der Aven has undergone a few transformations over the last two to three years. They changed their name from BrotherBrother to Van Der Aven, they started writing more in Afrikaans, and they released a 6-track self-titled EP.
The trio’s latest single from the EP, “Slaap Jy Al” (translated to “Are you sleeping yet?”), is the first single to be written under their new identity. According to the band, the song focuses on the tensions that are often created in close relationships due to miscommunication and uncertainties.
The band teamed up with Hugo Brand again to film the single’s accompanying music video, with SW Strauss in the director’s seat. Hugo also filmed the video for their previous single, “Heimwee”.
